NOTICE
You may modify, copy, distribute this tutorial whereever and whenever you want. It's open-source.
And PLEASE read the "Readme.txt" files first! Some authors (like me) need custom installation techniques!
*****************************
UNZIPPING THE ARCHIVE
After downloading the zip or rar file, unZip it or unRAR it to a folder.
Normally you would make a new desktop folder and unzip/unrar to it.
[NOTE: RAR files need a special program called WinRAR (www.rarlabs.com), you can get a 30-day trial free or buy the useful program]
****************************
EXAMINING THE TGA FILES
Open the folder containing the unzipped files. There should be many ".TGA" files, and two Text files called "BackgroundLoadingLayout.txt" and "BackgroundLayout.txt".
If the files are not there, means that the background is broken and cannot be used. (NOTE: If you see VMT and VTF files, the background you downloaded is for CS:Source not CZ/1.6)
****************************
BACKING UP OLD FILES
Many people tend the skip this step, but NO! In case the background is bugged and has many errors, or CS doesn't even start at all, you do not need to re-install.
Copy and paste the old TGA and TXT files into somewhere safe, like "My Documents" folder. Create a new folder called "Backup" and keep the files there.
If you are using Steam version, you need not backup. If there are problems, you can just delete the TGA and TXT files.
If you are using non-Steam version, you will have to copy back the old files into the "Resource" folder.
****************************
MOVING THE FILES
Open your czero or cstrike folder. Browse to "Resource". You should see many many files there, and two folders called "Background" and "UI".
(NOTE: If you do not have the folders, create them)
Copy and paste the TGA files into the "Background" folder. Copy the TXT files into the "Resource" folder.
****************************
THE END
Fire up CZ/CS1.6 and enjoy!
****************************
APPENDIX A: WHAT IS TGA?
TGA is Targa Image File. It is widely used in games like Half-Life 1. To edit TGA files I recommend you use a Graphics Program like the free GIMP (search Google for download) or the expensive but extensive Photoshop.
TGA is used to store background images, the Buy Menu pictures, and Team Selection pictures and many else, even Map Overviews.
