Adding Sounds-DETAILED VERSION Difficulty: Intermediate |
| Category: CS:S > Mapping | Author(s): [F]ox |

Hi, this is [F]ox,
In this tutorial i will show you how to add sounds to your map, step by step, and showing you where to put your sound so hammer will know where to find it.
1. Download DB power amp from http://www.dbpoweramp.com/download.htm and go to the very last one.
2. When you have SUCCESSFULLY downloaded db power amp, open it up and find the song you want to add to your map.
3. Once you have opened your song, click "convert to" and click on .wav (wave file). Click the "Uncompressed" tab, and hit 16 bit (CD). Beneath that, click on 11khz. Under channels, do '2 'stereo' (CD).
Then under the "output location, put it in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\ACCOUNTNAMEHERE***\counter-strike source\cstrike\sound\admin_plugin. Hit convert.
4. Open Hammer.
5. Open a new map or a map that your working on.
6. Make a entity in the map where you want your sound to be played (unless you want it to play everywhere then put it anywhere in your map and i'll tell you how to make it play everywhere in the 'flags' step).
7. Select "ambient_generic" and hit apply.
8. Go to ''Sound Name'' and hit browse. Under the "sound type" hit the selection "RAW".
9. Under "filter" type in the name of the sound you have added.
10. Hit apply.
11. Now click on the "flags" tab next to inputs and visgroup.
12. If you would like to have your sound play in the entire map then obviously hit play everywhere.
13. NEVER HAVE THE SOUND LOOP SO ALWAYS HAVE "NOT LOOPED" CHECKED OFF.
14. Now hit apply and go back to the "class info" tab. Under start volume hit 0 and then under volume pick between 1-10 no louder than 10.
15. If you want the sound to play with maybe a machine you made or any object or house, simply name that object or w/e and then go under class info in your ambient_generic and go to SourceEntityName and type in the name of the object or the house, and it will play only with that object or house.
16. Now, if you want to make your sound a trigger able sound where a person walks into a door and the sound starts, then add a brush that is the size of the door. Now texture that box in the tools\nodraw texture, and then select and hit tie to entity.
17. Tie it to a trigger_multiple.
18. Now go to apply and then go to "outputs".
19. Under outputs hit add.
20. Myoutputnamed-(OnStartTouch)
targetsentitysname-(what you named your ambient_generic)
viathisinput-(playsound)
21. Nothing else needs changed for that.
22. Now compile your map and have fun!!!
