Creating Map Icons Difficulty: Intermediate |
| Category: Gmod > Other/Misc | Author(s): Stene |

So, aren't everybody tired of custom GMod maps never having a nice icon in the map menu? Just blank grey squares with no icon. Here's a tutorial on how to make icons to maps, like in the screenshot.
The TUTORIAL:
First step.
Go to materials folder, and to there, make a new folder called maps.
So the path is "materials/maps".
Second step
Now make a VMT file, with the name of the map. For example now we are making an icon for Spacew00t's RP_Hometown2000. So that the path will now be "materials/maps/RP_Hometown2000.vmt".
To the VMT file, write the following:
"UnlitGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "maps/RP_Hometown2000"
"$ignorez" 1
"$vertexcolor" 1
"$vertexalpha" 1
}
Third step
Now you have the VMT ready. Here I have the very very stylish RP_Hometown2000 icon made. REMEMBER, the icon must always be on the scale of 128x128:

Then you import the image to VTFEdit program, with the basic settings. Now there is this weird "Flags" thing on the left. What to do with it? Look at the following pic:

Those things you must check on the Flags list. Then it is possible for the image to show up. Save the image as RP_Hometown2000.vtf to the materials/maps folder, and the VMT should be linking to it.
Fourth step
Now you have the files ready, open up Garry's Mod. Go to "Play Singleplayer", and check out the drop-down menus. In the "Other", there will most likely be RP_Hometown2000, and now with a gorgeous icon to emphasize it!

Woohoo! |
