How to upload a spray Difficulty: Intermediate |
| Category: CS:S > Sprays | Author(s): Bopper |

I understand uploading a spray to FPSBanana is very simple, and for my one year membership on the site, I've never seen anyone how a problem with uploading a spray before, until today when I saw a thread from a new member. He doesn't understand how to upload a spray, so I decided to make a tutorial that will help him and who ever else has trouble uploading a spray in the future.
This tutorial will show you the process I use to upload a spray to the site.
Tutorial
Creating the image: Please read the spray rules before even starting the spray, or else if you make a illegal spray to the site, then all of your hard work would have been for nothing. Make sure the image size is 256x256 because that is the max on FPSBanana, and it also shows up in really good quality in-game.
Converting: You need to convert the spray you have just made into a .vmt and a .vtf, you need to convert it so it will work in-game. How I convert the spray I've just made is by using SprayR. SprayR will not online convert the spray, but it will place the the .vmt and .vtf in the logo folder, which is the folder that you can access in-game.
Screenshot: You need a in-game screenshot of your new spray so everyone that is interested in the spray can see what it looks like in-game. Open up Counter-Strike: Source and go into options. In options select your spray you would like to take a screenshot of, but then click on the Video tab and then click Advanced. In Advanced set the texture to high so the spray can look it's best. Press accept then OK then enter a server. Spray your spray on a wall and make sure you can see all of it but you're not too far away. Once you have a good view of the spray press F5 that will take the screenshot. The screenshot will be sent to the Screenshot folder in the cstrike folder.
Spray preparation: I like to have everything together on my desktop to make adding the spray to the site even quicker. Make a folder and name it the same name as your spray. You need to copy and paste the .vmt and the .vtf of the spray into the new folder. You can find these by going to My Computer/Local Disk/Program Files/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/username/counter-strike source/cstrike/materials/VGUI/logos. In there you will find the .vmt and .vtf. Once you have copied and pasted the files into the folder you need to rar it or you can zip it. I have both WinRar and WinZip but I always rar it. I also like to copy and paste the screenshot onto the desktop so it's easier to get to. You can find the screenshot of the spray in My Computer/Local Disk/Program Files/Valve/Steam/SteamApps/username/counter-strike source/cstrike/screenshots.
Information: Once you have went to the spray section click "Add Spray."
* Means it's required.
Spray Name:* Under spray name, just put the name of the spray you made.
Spray Category: Select what the spray is under like if it's a flag select CS:S > Flag.
Author Details:* This is where you tell if you have made the spray, if it's a independent release or if it's a studio, and the authors of the spray.
Tags:* List everything in the spray or about the spray.
Images:* This is where you will upload the .jpg or .png image of the spray you have made.
Screenshots:* This is where you upload the screenshot you made of your spray in-game, just click browse and select it on your desktop and click open.
Author's Readme/Notes:* You can talk about the spray you have made here.
Spray Details:* You can mark if it's transparent or not or animated or not.
Spray File:* This is the most important, because this will allow people to download the spray for themselves to use in-game. Click browse then select the rar or zip file you made of the folder you made with the .vmt and .vtf then press open. Then you need to click the upload button that's next to the browse button or else it wont work.
Miscellaneous Extras:* The assessment criteria is about what members will assess your spray on, so if it's a serious spray, make sure that you don't have humor check for an example.
Revision: I always revise the information I just put in the add spray section, so I wouldn't have to edited it later.
Finish: Once you have finished or have done all of this, you can now press the upload button on the bottom of the the add spray page. Once you've done this you will get 25 points for that spray submission, and you can just sit back and wait for the good feedback to come rolling in for your spray. |
