Well i wrote this Tutorial after i read the tutorial about how to add a thunderstorm in your map. After reading it i still thought there was something missing so i added some *real* lightning my self.
This is a 6 Step Plan
1. Tools
2. Sound
3. Light
4. Lightning
5. Target
6. Timers
1.
First off:
Add 2 "Logic Timers", 1 "Ambient_generic", 1 "Info_target", & 1 "Env_Laser" in your map
2.
We start with the "Ambient_generic"
This will play the thunder sound when the "Logic Timer" fires it.
"Name" Thunder
I made my "Ambient_generic" play "Sound Name" ambient/atmosphere/thunder1.wav
With a "Volume" of 10
Then under "Flags" everything ticked so tick "Play everywhere", "Start Silent", "Is NOT Looped"
3.
Now we start adding the "Light"
Just place 1 "Light" on the "Skybox" give it the "Name" Light_Thunder
And as "Appearance" Fast Strobe
Now copy and paste the "Light" several times across the whole "Skybox"
4.
Its time to add the lightning now.
Place an "Env_Laser" where you want to have your lightning starting
give it the "Name" Lightning
"Render FX" Faster Strobe
"Target of Laser" Strike_Point
"Width of Beam" 5
"Amount of noise" 200
"Damage / second" 10000
"Dissolve Type" Heavy electrical
and under "Flags" only tick "EndSparks" when it hits something
5.
Now add the "Info_Target" where you want to have your lightning stop
( i made mine hit the top of a church tower)
give the the "Name" Strike_Point
Those "Logic Timers" will regulate the time that the lightning plays.
6.

On the first "Logic_Timer" I made the "Refire Interval" 20 because i want my lightning to play every 20 seconds.
After that I went to "Outputs" and i "Add..." 3 things first off:
"OnTimer" "Light_Thunder" "TurnOn" none none "No"
"OnTimer" "Thunder" "PlaySound" none none "No"
"OnTimer" "Lightning" "TurnOn" none none "No"
screenshot C
On the second "Logic_Timer" I made the "Refire Interval" 3 because i want my Lightning to stop flashing after 3 seconds.
"OnTimer" "Light_Thunder" "TurnOff" none none "No"
"OnTimer" "Lightning" "TurnOff" none none "No"
Thats all have fun and don't try to get hit by it :)
( I suggest you to don't let the lightning play too much or too long, you don't want any one suing you for giving them a seizure :P)
Well thats all just Recompile and check it out :)
