Making A simple room in hammer the basics Difficulty: Beginner |
| Category: CS:S > Mapping | Author(s): |

Out of all the 3d modeling programs out there, hammer is one of the simplest one to use. In this tutorial im going to just show you show to make simple room.
First thing that we need to do is create our room, to do this we are going to use the block button , then in the 2D views make a box. once you have the box to be the size you want it to be press Enter.
REFER TO SCREENSHOT A
Now we have a box but the box is not hollow so click on the select tool and in the 3D camera view click on your box. Now to make it hollow while your object is selected press Ctrl+H a dialog box will pop you asking how thick you want to walls to be, for this tutorial im going to be using size 12 walls. Now move your 3D camera view inside the box so we can start placing things in it, to do this hold in the space bar and click on the 3D view, the controls are just like in Counter Strike Source W,A,S,D and the mouse to look.
Inside the box we want to add some textures to the ground walls and ceiling. There are 2 buttons that apply textures, the one that looks like just a brick block applys the texture to the entire brush, and the block with multiple colors applies textures only to certain faces at a time. for this tutorial im going to use the one for single face texture application . When you click on this a new dialog box comes up this is were you pick your texture and size and thigns like that. first lets texture the floor click on the texture aplicator and in the dialog box click browse this will bring up a list of all the textures in the game, you can also filter out some textures by using the filter box, for example to find a floor texture im going to filter tile
pick the one you like and double click on it this will take you back to the first diaolg box. now to apply the texture in the 3D view of your box right click the floor to apply the texture, now go back and do the same apply textures to the walls and ceiling.
After the room is all textured we need to create a light.Light and everything besides brushes (walls) are entities. to create a light click on the entity creator and use the 2D views to place it were you want it

Make sure that you pick light as your entity on the side (see red box in screenshot), then to create it press ENTER.
Finalt thing im going to do to this room is add some spawn points to do this we use the entity that we used for the lights cept this time intead of light we are going to use info_player_terrorist for a terrorist spawn point or info_player_counterterrorist for a counter terrorist spawn point, and they are placed in the map just like the light was.

Last thing we need to do is compile and test (F9). when you press F9 a box will pop up, for now just hit "Ok"
for this just make sure everything is on normal and that "Don't run game after compiling" in NOT checked.
And this is the final product.
