Easiest way to install and uninstall skins Difficulty: Beginner |
| Category: CS:S > Installation | Author(s): csskiller |

First there are somethings I want to tell you before we install skins. This is my first tutorial. even though it is my first, i will go into extreme detail in order to help you install skins. I want to go into a lot of detail so you will understand installation better and I also want to make sure that every one knows how to install skins so they don't have to figure it out the hard way like I did. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE WHOLE THING! Enjoy ^.^
1. If you are not a beginner you don't have to read step 1. It only tells you what a skin is. A skin is just a replacement of the weapon model. so, even if you get a different knife or ak47 or whatever, it will still do the same damage.
2. Ok, now that you know what a skin is, lets get started. In order to unzip and extract the files of the skin, you must install WinZip. Dont worry, it's free. If you don't already have it go to www.winzip.com. Once you are on the website, click on downloads and select WinZip 11.1. Scroll down and click on evaluation version (It's pretty much a free trial that lasts 45 days). Don't worry though, because after the trial expires you can just delete it and re-install it. Note, after you re-install it the skins won't uninstall and will still reamain unchanged.
3. Now that you have installed WinZip, find the skin you want to get and click on download (if you are using fpsbanana you have to select your source after you click download). Next, WinZip should open a window as soon as you click download. There will be two buttons one says buy now and the other one says use evaluation version. Unless you want to buy it, make sure you click on the evaluation version. Now, a list of files should come up. Minimize this window for now. After you have minimized the window go to my documents and create a new folder called CSS skins. Once you have made the folder, open up the WinZip window again and click the extract button, then navigate to your CSS skins folder and drop them there.
4. You will not need WinZip now, so you can close it. Now, you will have to do some navigation so pay attention. Go to the CSS skins folder you created and highlight the folders that say models, materials, scripts, and sounds (if one is missing dont worry just go on). After you highlight them, right click on them and cut them, then paste them C/program files/steam/SteamApps/(your account name)/counter-strike source/cstrike. If you want, you can even create a short cut to the cstrike folder (trust me it helps).
UNINSTALLING SKINS
1. Go into your cstrike folder (which you learned how to get to in step 4) and open up the materials file. Go to weapons and there should be a folder that says the name of the weapon you downloaded (ex. ak47) delete the folder. then go to scripts/weapons and delete the skin script (if there is one), also delete the skin folder in the sounds folder. Lastly, open up the models file and delete all of the skin files. If you have more than one skin this could be harder. Make sure you delete the files of the skin you don't want.
2. Re-boot your computer. Do not forget because otherwise your weapon that you uninstalled the skin for won't be there.
