How to be a Good Studio Member
By: Ramaq
Ok, I've never seen a tutorial which tells people how to be a good studio member. So I decided to write one so that people can actually be a good studio member and help produce lots of good quality work for their studio and the FPSBanana community.
This Tutorial is directed to new FPSBanana users who have good talents and are recruited into a studio, but don't know what to do, therefore becoming inactive. So if you're new to a studio, then this is the tutorial for you.
What this tutorial will explain is:
- Good Activity In a Studio.
- How to produce good quality work, and good organization
- How to deal with your fellow members
Good Activity In a Studio:
One of the most important things a new member has to master is becoming an ACTIVE MEMBER.
An active member means that they will add the studio to their watch list so that they can get notified of any new information. To do this locate the "Watch this Studio" button ( ). Click it.
See Screenshot 1(Not Render Image)
==========
Ask yourself this questions before you join a studio:
- Will I be posting a response to activity when I see new work or posts in my subwatch?
NOTE: If you are going to be gone from the studio for a while, for holidays, school, or what ever reason, it is best to let your studio leader,(or members if you are the leader), know before you just disappear. (Trust me it's very annoying)
How to Produce Good Quality Work, and Good Organization:
BE ORGANIZED!!!
What I do for my studio organization is create a folder in "My Documents" named after my studio. (See Screenshot 2).
In here I have subfolders with different things that I want to work on. (See Screenshot 3).
Just create more and more subfolders. It helps a lot.
(DON'T OVER DO IT, just as long as it's easy for you).
When you have a new idea that you want to have as a studio release, create projects.
To do this find the projects section of your studio. It might be on your main studio page, it might not. If it is not click the projects tab at the top of your studio page. (It's in small writing most of the time and is hard to see so keep your eyes peeled).
Here is what it looks like:

Once you are at that page click the "Add Project" Button. ( ). You will be taken to another page, where you will fll in all of the requested forms if they apply to your project. It is best to add people that you will need to help you, in the project as well as yourself.
Once you have posted the project you can add WiP's (Work in Progresses).
A WiP is a small part of the project where people can see what you are working on and how your project is going. You can add up to 4 screenshots and if you want you can embed a video into the text part of the WiP.
==========
What I do for Projects and WiP's is: the following:
- In your studio folder in your documents, create a folder called projects.
- Inside that folder create a new folder named after one of your projects.
- Inside that folder make one called WiP's.
- Inside the WiP's folder create a folder called WiP 1.
- Save your .jpg format pictures in here.
(It seems like a lot but it really isn't and it helps a lot).
Once you have all of your pictures (or video [hosted]), you can click the "Add WiP" Button in the WiP section: ( )
==========
Fill in the required information and upload your pictures, (preferably .jpg).
If it is the first WiP for that project name your WiP like this:
WiP Name:
(Project Name) [WiP 1]
If it is your second WiP for the project, then add the project name and then which WiP number it is.
==========
NOTE:USE THE DEVFILES!!!
These are very important and you should use them frequently if you are working with a partner. Don't just send the file itself, but instead put your file in a zip or rar format. so that you can send it easier.
How to Deal With Your Fellow Members:
A good thing to learn to do when you join a studio is to be outgoing and friendly to the other members in your studio.
If they are having some trouble with a project, try and lend some help. You can do various things to take the load off their shoulders like film their product, edit a part of the product etc.
DON'T GET ANGRY!
If you ever get into a fight with one of your studio members just contact the leader of the studio to sort it out.
Comment on each others work
You should always comment on your team-mates work be it in a WiP, project or release. Everybody likes feedback, (unless it's bad), and you get points for it.
Thats all folks! If you want to add something to this please let me know and I will see what I can do to make this tutorial better. I hope you learned something from my tutorial on how to use a studio and be a good active member!
