Mirroring Weapons made easy Difficulty: Beginner |

This tutorial will describe how to mirror weapon models for CS1.6 and CZ using very simple tools. The only tools you need are:
-gFlip (clicky)
-JHLMV (optional)
-compiler
-de-compiler
(go here, scroll down and download studiomdl (compiler) and mdldec (decompiler)
For my tutorial, I will mirror Lama and Numb's "Old" FiveSeven, found here (clicky), which I believe would have gotten better ratings, had it been mirrored.
First off, download the tools listed above and, preferably, put them somewhere easily accessible (eg. in a file in your desktop). Next, download the weapon and take the "v_fiveseven" model and make 2 copies of it in 2 separate files. Go to one copy, and open gFlip. Drag & Drop the .mdl into gFlip (refer to screenshot B) and hit the FLIP button. Wait, and soon a file named "v_fiveseven_gflip" should appear in the folder. Close gFlip and delete the old one, keep this new one. Now, right-click on the new .mdl and select the "Open With..." option and then "Choose Program" (refer to screenshot C). You are looking for the "mdldec.exe" file you downloaded earlier. (In my screenshot is appears but it will not for you, you have to search for it). When you open it with the MdlDec you will get a load of things, but you are only looking for one thing. What is this thing? It is the actual weapon model. If you are new to this and don't know what it is, open the .qc file called "v_fiveseven_gflip.qc". Scroll down until you find a line that says "//reference mesh(es)". It should have two things listed, "fiveseven" and "hands". "Fiveseven" is the weapon, you don't want the hands.)refer to screenshot D)
Important Note:
Some weapons have both the hands and weapon as one file, or in cases with shields, the gun and shield as one, in these cases my method will NOT work
Delete everything except the "fiveseven" .smd file, which is the only thing you need. Now, go to your second copy of the original 57 model. Open it with "mdldec" again. Now, delete the "fiveseven" .smd file here and replace it with the other one you made earlier. Don't delete anything else. Now, open the .qc file (v_fiveseven.qc) with "studiomdl.exe" (find it just like you found "mdldec.exe"). If you did everything right, the v_fiveseven model will now have a flipped weapon. You can view it with JHLMV. (refer to screenshot A for outcome)
Additional note:
In this case, the "fiveseven" .smd file contained only one thing, the gun. For some weapons, like M4A1's, the .smd file has multiple things like the gun, ejection ports, silencers, scopes, e.t.c in one .smd file. In cases like these, this method sometimes works but mostly will only totally mess up the weapon. |
