A Proper Guide To Knifing In CSS
Difficulty: Beginner
Category: CS:S > Strategies & TacticsAuthor(s): Infallible, DylanM666

Alright, I'm writing this after seeing a couple of HORRIBLE tutorials on knifing. I am very disappointed. So here is Infallible's guide to knifing, with some help from my good friend, Awper or DylanM666.

It is split into 3 catagorys, for people that don't know how to knife, people that know how to knife, and people who know the proper techniques but just want a few pro tips. Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert

Beginner: This part will teach you how to actually use the knife. Pretty basic, but yeah, I'll teach you. Load up CS:S, and then go into your options menu. From there go into keyboard, and make sure that primary fire and secondary fire are bound to Mouse1 and Mouse2. If they are not, make them like that. Now to use the knife, you simply run up to someone and click some of the buttons. Pretty simple right? Well we're only started, now onto the intermediate part.

Intermediate: This part will teach you techniques on using your knife.

#1. Always use the secondary fire when knifing. If you do this properly it is WAY better than any "Awesome Knifing Techniques" where you use primary a few times and then secondary. That only works if you're facing someone who is at the beginner stage, or the stage you are at now. Facing someone who is good at knifing, this will not work.

#2. Try to sneak up on someone from behind if possible. Knifing someone in the back with your secondary fire means a one shot kill. This works best on servers with footsteps disabled, and can be quite hard, but if possible, do it.

#3. Distance is key. Go up to a wall and try knifing the wall, see the farthest distance you can be away from the wall and your knife still hit it. This is the best distance to knife from. It is highly unlikely that your opponent will have perfected the distance and will be able to knife you.

#4. Trick knifing. This works on Intermediate, and sometimes Expert opponents. Knife from a safe distance, then when they come, but are still out of range, start backing out of the way. If they have a slow reaction time they will try to knife you, giving you a delay to go in for the kill. This is risky, but can be worth it.

#5. Pay attention to health. If you know that you've knifed them with your secondary, but they haven't gotten you, and you're not afraid to go down to 45 health, run up to them. It doesn't matter if they get you once for you can surely click before the delay before they can attack again runs out.

#6. Always be on the offensive. Walking backwards does not work well when knifing. You always want to be walking forwards.

#7. Getting out of their range. After you attack, get out of there, and make sure that they cant get you during the delay between knife attacks.

#8. Knife vs Gun. Always use cover if possible. Try to get close to them when they don't expect it, or aren't looking. Take advantage of when they're reloading. Sometimes for inexperienced shooters, jumping up and down and strafing targets can be very hard to hit.

Expert: For people that just need a few extra tips.

On surf maps like Surf_Leet, that have boosters, try using them to circle around to your opponent, as in jumping off the booster, turning around and shifting your momentum in the complete opposite direction (only works with high sv_airaccelerate).

Never jump, its very unlikely that your going to get someone from above. Also never come down on top of them from a higher location, as this is even worse. It can expose your legs if you land on them, or your back if you jump over them.

Try sidestepping to move away, and circle around instead of backing away, a lot of people with low mouse sensitivity or knifing inexperience will get confused of where you are or not be able to turn fast enough. Of course, if possible go for the back. If not, it cant hurt.

Conclusion:

I hope that this helped knifers of all experience levels. If you have anything I should add that I approve of, I will add it to this tutorial. Now I would appreciate it of you agreed that I am the best and worship me for I am a god. I am not responsible for any suicide attempts that may occur because people are sad from getting owned in Counter Strike: Source, or a collapse of civilization. Thank you for reading my tutorial.

I completely agree with everything here except for the one about jumping. I haven't met anyone yet that can get them self out of a position where I'm jumping over their heads and right clicking them in the neck or back. Just never jump off something to knife some one.

Hahah, I've gotten to the point of where I can kill 5 or 6 guys in a knife fight because they don't know the proper distance to knife at. I've also been ganged up on and still won multiple times.

Awesome. Now when someone challenges me to a knife fight, with some practice, they'll be eating my balls for the entire round. :D

Well, "Awesome Knifing Skills" is pretty useful. Everyone thinks its noob, but its a good way to knife. Slash has larger distance, so they can try to stab you and you can slash 3 times then stab. When I'm only stabbing, I actually duck, to avoid them stabbing me in the head. Or If were on a line platform, I run at them, then at the last moment, move the mouse up and stab. Boom Headshot.

You can't headshot knife -.-. That's in cs.
