Phys_Hinge Tutorial Difficulty: Beginner |
| Category: CS:S > Mapping | Author(s): computerzombie |

Alright here is a tutorial for people who want to make those neat signs, I.E Like in "de_tides."
Alright, This is pretty small tutorial so pay attention and you might be able to use this VERY neat tool.
The Box
Alright, So I'm guessing you already have a small map made or some kind of pre-made map where the "Phys_Hinge" will come in.
Now for the easiest part,THE BOX! This "Box" is just a brush. Make a box brush and name it "Object_1" it will automatically correspond with the "Object_1" name you will put in the "Phys_Hinge" entity. Also, I want you to click on the brush, Go Tools>Tie to entity Or CTR+T. Now, Make it an entity called "Func_Physbox" This will make it so that your box will move when pushed, Or shot at.
Mess around with the options and you can get cool effects
The Entity
First of all i want you to take the Entities tool and make an entity called "Phys_Hinge" Now, You should have a little red box, This box is your hinge. You can now double click the hinge and you will get some properties. Now, I will not go into the details because most of it is very self explanatory. The only thing i want you to do is name the entity "constraint_1" Just for the tutorials sake, It will help you keep a neat and tidy work space when you work on larger projects. Not, 1 little bar below "Name" is "Entity 1" And below that "Entity 2" These are essentially the entity's that will connect to the hinge-ball, Which i will show you how to maneuver in a moment. So under "Entity 1" I want you to give it a name, Any name, I'm going to use "Object_1" For this tutorial.
The "Ball"
This is the ball i was talking about earlier, If you look at your 2d view, Any view, Except 3d! You will see a small "Ball" inside the "Phys_Hinge" entity. This is the ball that will define how long, And what direction your hinge will be, You can me this ball in any direction you wish. For this tutorial I'm just going to shove it over to the right so i can make a sort of a moving sign.
And that's it, Your finished!
Have fun with the neat and proper tool!
