Exporting models from 3dsmax
Difficulty: Beginner
Category: CS:S > ModelingAuthor(s): silentassassin12

Ive been asked a couple of times on how to export models from 3dsmax because they always get a black model or something messed up. so naturally i made a tut for the rest of you in case anyone else needs to know or wants to learn

How to export your models from max to milkshape with the texture

1) open your model in 3dsmax

2) press m to bring up materials and click little box next to diffuse, then click bitmap when the new window pops up

3) click the blue/white checkerd 3d box and drag your material to your model, once you do that you should see the texture or uvmap on the model

4) file/export as a reference smd.

5) open milkshape and import your model smd with the skeleton box unchecked and the other 2 checked

6) file/save as so that you can merge with the animations

7) file/new then file/import/half life smd and open your reference to the weapon you want to switch

8) look in the group tab, if your model has the material name as the one you saved it as then it worked. if its just something crazy or it says default then you messed up

9) the rest is just positioning compiling which this tut doesnt go over

heres a short video of what the steps above(if the video isnt showing wait a bit until youtube approves it)

When i try to import my .smd file into milkshape, it say there is an error. It is like, We're sorry microsoft is working on this problem... then send error report and don't send. I've sent it like one million times, but it will not do anything. is there a problem with my milkshape, or my 3ds .smd exporter (i have the smd files installed correctly)
