How to make a surf map Difficulty: Beginner |
| Category: CS > Mapping | Author(s): |

So you want to make a surf map?
..well doesn't everybody. I don't think I could count all the people who have asked how.
To make a simple surf map, start by adjusting your grid size to 16^3 (16 unit squares on the 3 views) now, make a brush (8x16x48) or if you have every eighth grid mark highlighted (like I do) you can use this (1x2x6)
You can refer to the first picture if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
Now use V.M. (vertex manipulation) to join the top 4 vertices in the middle. It is important to use V.M. in this process or you will get errors (two vertices can not reside on the same point)
Look at the second example picture if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
Now tilt your brush on its unused axis. Make a top and a bottom platform, (as you have no doubt seen in other surf maps)
Take a look at my third picture for this. You can see the obvious (but small) slope in the y/z grid window.
Now you should be able to surf your map, it should look a little something like the forth picture. And you should be able to surf, with a little cleaning up and some good textures you will have a great map for surfing.
If you want an example map on this you can check out the map in this tutorial, NOTE: it does come with the hammer file, so oyu can open it in hammer and se what makes it tick (you will need piransi.wad textures)
