This tutorial will detail all of the map's textures you play in any Half-Life 1 based game with one command. We will be entering that command in the userconfig.cfg Don't know what that is? No worries, I'll teach you how to find, create, and configure it.
We will cover Counter-Strike only. If you want to use this for any other Half-Life 1 based game, PM me or comment on my profile, and I will get back to you as soon as i can.
Locating your userconfig.cfg
Locate your cstrike folder. It is typically found in this directory:
C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNTNAME \counter-strike\
For "YOURSTEAMACCOUNTNAME", replace it with the user name that you log-in to Steam with.
If you do not have one, then read "Creating a userconfig.cfg ". Otherwise, skip to "Configuring ".
Creating a userconfig.cfg
REFER TO SCREENSHOT A
Create a new Text Document , not Rich Text Document . You can do this by right-clicking on your desktop, then scroll down 'till you see "Text Document".
Now, add the following to the first line of your Text Document...
r_detailtextures_1
"1" means to activate it in-game. To disable it, simply delete the line or replace 1 with "0", in case if you decide to use that command again.
Now, save it as "userconfig.cfg " to C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\YOURSTEAMACCOUNTNAME \counter-strike\ . Make sure you include .cfg in the name, or it will not save properly and not work in-game.
You can put any other custom command as well in here. For other commands, click here .
Configuring Open your userconfig.cfg and enter this on the first line on top...

Make sure the line exec userconfig.cfg is in the bottom of your "config ". Your config is located in your cstrike folder as well. Refer to Screenshot B .
Alright, now the final product should look like screenshot C .
That's it! That's all there is to it! Now, you have a high-res game without spending so much money on a new gfx card.
Have fun.
