Changing in game text (scoreboard, menus etc...)! Difficulty: Advanced |
| Category: CS:S > Scripting | Author(s): J2K |

//===================================
//Editing the scoreboard, menus and messages by J2K!
//===================================
This guide will teach you how to change many different text messages in the game to match your own liking!
I will show you some of the best changes in detail, and give you pointers on changing more subtle things in the game.
Note: This tutorial assumes that you are running the English version of Counter-Strike Source, if you are running it in another language, this will NOT work. For notes on customizing non-English versions of Counter-Strike Source, see the notes below this script.
//===================================
//Part 1 - The necessary file
//===================================
For Mozilla FireFox users
Right click here and choose Save Link As...
For Internet Explorer users
Right click here and choose Save Target As...
Save the file to your equivalent of the following location:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\UserName\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike\resource
Once you have the file in that folder, you are ready to begin customizing it!
//===================================
//Part 2 - The process
//===================================
For all customizations here on in we will use notepad's Edit > Find function on the commands i give you, then replace the text along side it.
If you attempt to just replace the word "Terrorists" you will cause a world of trouble for yourself as it appears many other places and doesn't always appear as a plural.
//===================================
//Part 3 - Customize away!
//===================================
The first (and most fun) thing i customized was the scoreboard. I will show you how to customize each part of it below.
//Team names
Edit > Find
Find what: Cstrike_ScoreBoard_Ter
Next to Cstrike_ScoreBoard_Ter you will see the word "Terrorists". Replace this with what you wish to call them.
Edit > Find
Find what: Cstrike_ScoreBoard_CT
Next to Cstrike_ScoreBoard_CT you will see the word "Counter-Terrorists". Replace this with what you wish to call them.
//Dead, VIP and Bomb messages
Edit > Find
Find what: Cstrike_DEAD
Next to Cstrike_DEAD you will see the word "Dead". Replace this with what you wish to call it. I use "K.I.A" (Killed in action).
Edit > Find
Find what: Cstrike_BOMB
Next to Cstrike_BOMB you will see the word "Bomb". Replace this with what you wish to call it. I use "Explosives".
Edit > Find
Find what: Cstrike_VIP
Next to Cstrike_VIP you will see the word "VIP". Replace this with what you wish to call it. I use "President".
Always be sure to save after you have made changes :P
//===================================
//Part 4 - Up to you now :P
//===================================
If you wish to customize more, just sift through the cstrike_english.txt file and replace anything in the right hand column with your own choice of message.
Hope you all enjoy this (:
Jay.
//===================================
//Part 5 - Notes for non-English versions of CS: Source
//===================================
If you run a version of Counter-Strike Source that is not english, you will need a program called GCFScape. It can be downloaded here.
Install this program, then run it.
Once you are in, click File > Open and navigate to
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps
Open counter-strike source shared.GCF.
Navigate to cstrike > resource and extract your language file to
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\UserName\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike\resource
Now you can edit it using my tutorial above as a guideline (:
