Adding Sounds to Your Map Difficulty: Beginner |

In this tutorial I will explain how to add sounds to your map.
Adding Sounds
Start off by opening your map. Move over to the location in your map where you want the sound to play. Using the Entity Tool( ) and select Ambient_Generic from the Drop down list.

Place the entity where you would like your sound to come from. Once you've placed it somewhere, you should be able to see a grid Circle around the entity. That is the range at which the sound will play, being louder the closer you get to the center.

Now it's time to configure the sound entity. Open it up by double clicking on it and you should see the properties menu. Start off by giving the Entity a name. I called mine "sound".

Now move onto the next option which should be "Sound Name". This option allows you to select what sound you want to be played. So hit the "Browse" button and type the name of your sound in the Filter. I searched "Motor" and I came up with these results.

I chose the sound "vehicles/airboat/fan_motor_idle_loop1.wav". Yours can be different, but remember that if you want it to loop ingame without any changes, the sound name should have _loop at the end. If it doesn't then it will not sound right if you set it to loop.
Now lets continue, you can change the Volume of the sound as well by going to the "Volume" option in the properties menu. Default Setting is 10 and the max is 10. Default setting is usually good enough.

All the other settings can be left the same. Now it's time to move on to the "Flags" tab. Once you click the tab, you should see 3 options and 2 of the 3 are selected. Here's what the options do
Play Everywhere: The sound is hear everywhere on the map
Start Silent: The sound starts silent, this is best used when trying to trigger the sound.
Is NOT Looped: This is what I talked about earlier, if your sound doesn't have the "_loop" at the end of the name, then this should be checked but remember that the sound will only play once.
For what I'm doing, I deselected all of them since the sound will be playing non stop and will only be heard once you get closer to it.
Press Apply and Run your map, once you go in if you have the settings like mine, you should hear the sound when you get closer to it. Since my sound was "Motor" I used it in my map fy_backwoods to add sound to a generator prop which I had.
You can do many things with sounds in your map including trigger them at certain parts of the map, but that will be another tutorial.
