This is something that has made me angry so many times it isn't funny. I don't know about other countries, but Australia has some fucked up censorship laws.

Our main radio stations are absolutely pathetic. I was listening to Hot FM the other night and Eminem's song "Shake that" came on. I will post a snippet of the real lyrics, followed by a snippet of what i heard after censorship.

Get buzzed, get drunk, get crunked, get fucked up
Hit the strip club don't forget ones get your dick rubbed
Get fucked, get sucked, get wasted, shit faceted
Pasted, blasted, puke drink up, get a new drink
Hit the bathroom sink, throw up

Get buzzed, get drunk, get crunked, get ______ up
Hit the strip club don't forget ones get your ____ rubbed
Get ______, get ______, get wasted, ____ faceted
Pasted, blasted, puke drink up, get a new drink
Hit the bathroom sink, throw up

The word "ass" in the chorus was even censored! This isn't even worth playing anymore it's censored so much. The Australian government also banned Eminem from ever entering Australia. So we can't see him live without moving country!

Then came big brother. They made an adult version and put it on late at night, and they still censored the swearing! WHAT'S THE FUCKING POINT!

A girl on big brother got turkey slapped by two guys on the show and both guys got immediately kicked out of the house (even though the woman enjoyed it). The turkey slap caused the biggest number of complaints about a TV show ever recorded in Australia.

Okay people, you say this stuff offends you, then you stay up until midnight to watch Big Brother Uncut then complain about anything inappropriate you see. Some of you even complain every week and watch it purely to pick on it. These are the worst of people that need to be removed from existence.

Another major example of censorship was a total recall of all copies of Grand Theft Auto III for Playstation 2. This recall was to remove the ability to pick up hookers off the street and pay for sex.

My view on censorship is simple:

1) Provide adequate warnings to people of any inappropriate content.

2) Provide a recommended minimum age for people to view it.

3) IF YOU DON'T LIKE SEX, DON'T WATCH SHOWS LIKE BIG BROTHER WITH SEX SCENE WARNINGS!

IF YOU DON'T LIKE SWEARING, DON'T DOWNLOAD EMINEM THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT HIM!

IF YOU DONT LIKE PROSTITUTION, DON'T PULL UP BESIDE HOOKERS AND HONK YOUR HORN IN GTA III.

It is that simple. Stop being such a party pooper and deliberately watching things trying to get offended just so you can complain. You are obviously a sad git with nothing better to do.

Everything on TV has a rating and all appropriate warnings in your TV guide, and on TV before the program starts, and whenever the show returns from a commercial break! Same goes for movies and games!

Let us have our uncensored material in peace and stop trying to take our shows off the air because you choose to sit up all night and watch them!

Anyone else with me on this one?!

Censorship is wrong. Freedom of expression is the most basic fundamental right after freedom of movement, which you largely don't have anymore unless you have money.

To give you a picture of what radio stations are like in the US, they're not allowed to air the words "shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits" during "the day" which somehow includes 6am-10pm. Apparently freedom of speech only applies 1/3 of the day. The logic used is that freedom of speech isn't as important as parent's ability to restrict their children's freedom of speech. Whoever came up with that argument needs a catscan.

You see censorship everywhere, even right here on FPSB. There absolutely nothing wrong with sprays of the human body as long as the vital parts are covered (purely for legal reasons mind you), but they're not allowed because tom, or Botch, or the mods, or some combination of them have decided that it's "not appropriate." The logic that people use is always that you shouldn't offend people, but nothing you could ever possibly do could offend me more than censorship.

These things piss me off too.

And actually, the dirtiest country of Europe (Romania) censored a Blakc Eyed Peas song. They censored the word "Ass" too.
I don't listen to R'n'B (tbh I hate it) but I used to get to school by school bus, and we had a radio there, and well, radios don't
play good songs, only the wannabe rappers (40CENT) and the shitty R'n'B songs (like Britney, Shakira, Christina, J-Lo)

I'd actually not censor anything on TV. Little children learn to swear from the streets anyways.... if not from parents -_-

Censore is trying to cover reality, and filter 70% of reality, and give you

70%
[|||||||____] Fake
30%
[|||_______] Reality

This thread should be sent as a letter to someone who is in charge of this, I think.

Someone should turkey slap the Australian Broadcasting Commission founder for his idea of cutting to an ad break as soon as a sex scenes starts and returning when the couple wake up in the morning.

Censorship seriously hinders the healthy development of children these days.

Nudity is by far the most absurd thing to censor. The children are going to see it sooner or later and hopefully when they do they are well educated about it. Although parents, schools and social groups are usually responsible for unplanned teen pregnancy, i believe censorship holds some of that responsibility too.

If you show people the cold hard reality of drugs and unprotected sex instead of a bunch of black bars people would be more aware of the consequences of their actions.

It is like living your life in bubble wrap, then when you lose the bubble wrap you are far from ready for what you see. You will struggle to fit in socially as over 75% of people in their teens swear frequently, over 50% of people lose their virginity before the legal age of sex and 80% have used alcohol or marijuana.

Over protective parents combined with censorship create fragile people that can't cope with the real world.

We really need to get that freedom of speech back to all of the time, not just a third.

The thing that really gets my goat is that it's completely illogical. One one hand, nobody gets to hear music the way it was written on the radio because they're afraid that little kids will hear dirty words, on the other, the little kids go to school (without a radio mind you) and hear the same exact words anyway! It's so completely pointless it makes me sick.

I don't get it, little kids are only going to learn things sooner or later. They should teach sex education in the teletubies.

Censorship too disturbs and annoys me. In science at school we were made to watch a video of lions having sex. LIONS, but seeing humans naked is apparently immoral. Frankly I'd rather listen to an Eminem song than see to giant hairy cats going at it hammer and tongs. But hey, what can you do.

But hey, what can you do.

You can give every last person who tries to censor something a big "Fuck you." If I didn't <3 so many people on this site I would already be gone because of the constantly increasing censorship here.

It's not much of a big deal. They're not doing it to hurt you, they're doing it so that people don't go and sue them for getting those words in little johnny's head and then little johnny going to school and telling his teacher to "go suck a fucking cock, bitch." and him getting suspended because of what he heard on the radio. With how video games are gettting boycotted because "omg violence n bad wurdz" the radio would be boycotted for bad language and suggestive lyrics. I don't find it a big deal, and if you do find it a big deal, just go to a record store and buy some CDs.

No. The radio spectrum is owned by the public. I'm part of the public, and I want to hear the songs the way they were written. That's what I support, and I will continue to vote for any political candidate that agrees with me.

Also, it has nothing to do with boycotts. If it did, radio stations would censor themselves (and many of them would). But it's the FCC that doesn't allow these words to be played - radio stations have no choice in the matter.

Indeed I shall. The next concerned mother who has the outright audacity and disrespect to say "You can't say that in front of my kids" is going to get such a shock. Just kidding.

But it really is a sad state of affairs. Even in the U.S. where freedom of speech is a huge thing, I see growing censorship. A few weeks ago I saw something on the news about a man who wasn't allowed to fly home to New Zealand, just because he was wearing a t-shirt labeling george w bush (the ONLY U.S. president un-worthy of capitols in his name) as the worlds biggest terrorist.

That really pissed me off because he wasn't allowed to board because of his shirt. Now not only can you be told what not to say or do, but you are only allowed to wear what everyone says is acceptable. It really is becoming a world of "You can say whatever you like as long as it's what everyone else says"; change a few words in that sentence and it applies to todays censorship.

I've done it. I was in McDonalds and I said shit during a conversation with a friend of mine in a low tone of voice and some lady got offended because her rather old son was with her. I think she said something like "Excuse me?" and I said "What?" and she said "I would appreciate if you didn't use that kind of language around my son." so I said "Too fucking bad lady."

I probably would have gotten asked to leave, except I'm one of McDonald's most valuable customers. They just acted all apologetic until she left, then we all made fun of her.

I don't find it a big deal, and if you do find it a big deal, just go to a record store and buy some CDs.

That would be great, but even CD's in Australia can be censored.

I have an original copy of The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem. His song "Marshall Mathers" has been censored on this CD.

Which is it bitch, Mrs. Briggs or Ms. Mathers?
It doesn't matter your attorney Fred Gibson's a faggot!

Which is it bitch, Mrs. Briggs or Ms. Mathers?
It doesn't matter your ________________________ a faggot

That's one big fucker of a censor and pissed me right off since i bought the original CD.

It isn't his only CD or song to be censored either. His song rap game from the 8 Mile sound track also gets some names taken out of it.

This is when censorship has really crossed the line i believe. They censor something just in case some fucking do gooders decide to buy the CD just to criticize it. The CD should be uncensored for the Eminem fans and the do gooders should get a life and stop buying his albums if it offends them!

Being a fan of death-metal in Australia is shit. My brother is one of THE biggest metal heads I know, and most of my friends are also metal-heads. A band from Tasmania, (a state in Australia, for those who don't know) made a death-metal album in their own state, sent it to their publishing label in the U.S. and when they tried to import it and sell their album in their own country, all copies were seized and they were fined.

It really makes me mad that you can't even enjoy your taste in music just because of its nature or content.

At least with the United States you have absolutely no rights entering / leaving the country. There is no legal way for me to leave the United States. I can only pray I don't need to go to another country for a job or something.

Honestly, the only way I'm probably ever going to get to leave the US is if I make arrangements to become a citizen in another country, in which case I will have to smuggle myself there.

Why can't you leave the country?

I would also like to note, that I owned an original, uncut copy of GTA : San Andreas. When I found out you could pick up hookers, and shag them in your car, down an alleyway, I nearly made a mess on the carpet and laughed for about 10 minutes straight.

I too still own this version, apparently it can fetch decent dollars on e-bay, but that's just hear say at the moment i have not looked into it.

Did you notice it actually gives you health when you hire the hooker? Each time the suspension of the car squeaks you gain a life point.

And there was nothing more fun than letting them out the car, then beating the shit out of them and taking your money back!!!

Anyway, I can't leave the country because I do not have or want a passport and I do not carry identification except in my car, which I refuse to show to people.
