Well, I actually did want to bump the thread I made in 2005 but it was closed already :-)

Anyways, I found this thread of mine a few days ago and searched for the appropriate files on my hdd.
I found the model and it was more or less disgusting
I think it was the second model I made in max, been using Milkshape only before that...
The mesh was so bad, I think I didn't even know the symmetry modifier back then; smoothing errors all over the place.
Well, I felt like finishing it and releasing it for CSS.
UV maps for the night vision scope and the magazine are done, I already started painting the textures for the scope as well.
I finish the textures for both of these parts first, so you can comment on the mesh in the meantime. From my point of view it's done, but maybe some of you will find something that needs to be improved.
I would'nt like to work on the wooden part's smoothing groups because most of that will be deleted for the viewmodel ( first person perpective ) since it won't be seen ingame anyway.
tris: ~6500, quads: ~3000
both sides of the gun are made as well as some rough internals.
Oh and here's some information on that rifle:
Since only a few were actually produced, it's hard to find reference pics on www.
Walther Wa-2000 sniper rifle had been developed by Carl Walther Waffenfabrik (Germany) in early 1970s as a highly specialised police sniper rifle. Unlike many other sniper rifles of that period, WA-2000 was not a conversion of the sporting or hunting rifle, but entirely new design with some remarcable features.
The gun is built in the bullpup style, to achieve most compact package while maintaining suitably long barrels. Basic chambering was .300 Winchester Magnum, with effective range well beyond 800 meters, with optional cahmberings for 7.62mm NATO (.308 win) and 7.5mm Swiss. Wa-2000 is a semiautomatic rifle, gas operated, with rotating bolt. This give the ability for quick follow-up shots if needed. The heavy, match barrel is fluted and free-floated. The stock and trigger are ajustable, the folding bipod is mounted on the special ramp abpove the barrel and could be moved forward and back to achieve maximum comfort on position. Overall, the WA-2000 was the very strong and accurate rifle, but unit price was too high and resulting sales were marginal, so it never entered full-scale production.
