I have an extra gig. But my computer wont take it. i guess.

So like, hella months ago, i got these, or sort of close to those. And i was happy and yadda yadda yadda. So i try to put them in. Before i had the same kind just 512MB's. yeah, really shitty. So i put these in and before it gave me the blue screen of death, but it when away when i restarted my computer. So now i only have one gig. And the bad news is im running on vista. and people say vista chews up 1 gig so its required to have 2. So i decide to try to put this other gig into each slot, and every time i turn on the computer, nothing shows. Its just a black screen. Now some people say it bad memory, but its not, because the 512 MB isn't bad memory, i tries the same things, and still just a black screen. So my questions it. What should i do? Is it the slots in my computer? Is it my computer its self? please i really need an answer. or a way to install all this ram.

Did you make sure that the RAM is compatible with the Mobo (check and see if the speed is compatible)?

Vista calculates how much free you have and takes 70% of w/e amount you have, so whether you have 1 or a bajillion its still taking 70%

Maybe only the one RAM slot works. If you want 2 just sell what you have and buy a 2 gb stick and put it in the working slot.

Bleh. so much effort lol. I dont know. my Mobo can accept 16 gigs. (4x4x4x4) so i dont know why it wont accept these other ones.

Don't make shit up, pussy, or I'll have to use my Mace. You shouldn't try to mix and match RAM, that's just asking for problems. Your best bet is to get another GB of the same, or a new 2GB kit.

There might be a RAM bank or stick not working. I'm not sure but you should try moving your ram from slot to slot and find the itchy-pitchy one. Also try changing ram stick to see if it's one of the sticks not working.

You already tried putting the pair in like this? Besides that, it may just be that the sticks are bad.

The stick might have been DOA, that happened to me when I ordered my 2 gigs when I was building my computer, I had to get a new pair and viola, they worked.

Stop trolling the forums. As far as memory, I wouldn't suggest mixing 1GB sticks with 512MB sticks. Your best bet is to buy a 2GB set, just to be safe.

Go through inserting only one stick at a time and testing with memtest to check if you have a bad DIMM.

I currently have the 1Gig (same one i had before in my computer) and the 512 MB, there hasnt been a blue screen, yet. but i did try the 1 1 thing Nvidea girl said to do. im doing that right now with the 512 and 1gig. tried it with the other gig. i think that one may be dead :[ Ill check the MEMtest right now.
