Voting Poll You must login or register to access this! Alright, I cleaned off my computer from dust, and got a lower temperature. I then thought, "why not an air duct?" Then I did. The temperatures were an amazing drop. I thought I'd share. with dust, no airduct: idle: 58C-60C gaming/under load: 68C-74C without dust, no airduct: idle: 54C-56C gaming/under load: 64C-72C without dust, with airduct: idle: 41C-44C gaming/under load:53C-60C All I used was some tape, saran wrap, and toilet paper cores/rolls whatever you want to call them. EDIT New pictures, I wrapped most of the stuff in duct tape. It seems to work better.

Wooo looks like BTX, if you've got a prescott (if its a pentium 4, hyperthreading, and about 3 to 3.4ghz) in there god help you because you're prolly going to cook the shit out of that airduct.

Yes you are correct. Nope, after I cleaned off the dust on the heatsink and fan, I noticed the temperature dropped a lot even after being used(touching it to check constantly). I'll remember your warning though.

If by that you mean you do have a prescott then yeah, check it often. I had a heatsink not much bigger than the one in your picture (traditional aluminum fins stock heatsink) and even though it kept temps relatively low there was still enough heat being put out to warp the motherboard.

I still concider my cooling mod better.. Lego Bricks ftw!! Since it's only a FX5200 (old upstairs PC) it hasn't got a temprature monitor on it. But let's put it this way; Before while playing Far Cry = too hot to touch After while playing Far Cry = Cooler than the ambient case temp!!!!

It could probably be made more efficient by covering the sides up and making a tunnel for the new air to come through, but honestly, for a 5200, It's working fine.

The CPU fan acts as a case fan too, and it's pretty big. There was this giant space on the heatsink. The heatsink was shaped like >, so I thought I could put stuff between it. I assume that went to the back of the case for video cards. It didn't work to well, so I just put an air duct to get more direct air.

I think you should license this "cooling technology" to Zalman. :D
