Making transparancies in GIMP
I've already looked for tutorials. I can't get any help.

Don't flame me or say "WHEAL DAT R WHUT T3h G0()GL R F4 lOL" because I've already looked for a tutorial here and searched for one on Google, Yahoo, Dogpile, etc. If I wanted to make my hands completely invisible with GIMP, how would I do it?

Add $alpha 0 to the .vmt, no point in making a skin.

I can't get it to work, could you give me the text? I know it should be simple but i just can't figure it out. Or if someone could tell me how to do it in Paint.NET I'd appreciate it. I'm going to try to make a huge skin pack where your hands are completely invisible, your weapons are almost entirely see-through (except the world models are completely opaque, glow and are red/blue/white depending on if it's a T, CT or both weapon), and player's bodies glow with red/blue as the body (T's and CT's respectively) and their heads are yellow/black stripes, nightvision that completely lights everything up and a flashlight that's slightly less effective than nightvision but lights up everything. I'll call it the uber-pro pack if I ever finish it, but first I need to know how to do transparencies on Paint.NET.

Bump because I still can't figure out how to get invisible hands, when I do your method it just phongs my hands.

In the hand .vmt, remove everything but the basetexture and add in the alpha with it.

VertexLitGeneric

"$basetexture" "models\weapons\v_models\hands\v_hands"
"$alpha" "0"
}

Thats all thats needed really. Should work, if not add in "$translucent" 1 as well.


But if your going to release a pack of textures like this, be prepared for disapprovals for cheating etc with coloured player models and heads.

It wouldn't be cheating, it's more of an aid because then you can see everything on your screen at once, track their movement better, find their heads easier, and not only see weapons on the ground but distinguish them. That is, of course, if I'm ever bored enough to do it. Thanks for the help, though, it didn't work but I have another idea.
