I've been looking for a good recorder for a long time. I need to know if there's a recorder that doesn't take up so much space and will save it as avi or something not like source recorder. Options to not suggest to me: Source Recorder: You have to watch your movies from the game, it doesn't record your voice and it takes too long to load. Xfire recorder:takes long to initiate/save it takes up way too much room and it lags me really badly. Fraps:Once tried fraps, it lags really bad and it took up my entire hard drive. awful terrible program.

Your only other choice that I can think of would be gamecam, and in my opinion that's worse than the other 3 you've listed.

So there's not really a good recording option eh? Fraps has the worst format ever but its the best of the listed.

Your computer must be ungodly old if fraps takes up your whole hard drive for 1 movie. Some of my 4 to 5 minute Audiosurf runs only (yes, only) take up 2 to 3 GB, but the quality is great. You can always save it as something with a lower quality (in Windows Moviemaker, Sony Vegas, ect) and then delete the recorded stuff afterwards. :]

I use fraps, because it is a good program, usually. Click the "half size" option in the movies tab, your videos will look a lot lower quality, but be half the size. then you open that file up in WMM or Vegas and save it as a .mpg or something, and then you can delete the .avi. damn nightstalker, you posted 2 seconds before me D:

Camtasia doesn't work for games. I tried recording an old 1998 game with it and it was barely watchable.

Source Recorder. It is easily the best option for Source games. There are two ways to stop the lag: 1) Encode the video while not playing a game, since encoders are not meant to be used in real-time. This is what Source Recorder does. 2) Use a hardware encoder. Basically, get another processor so your CPU only needs to worry about the game. (This can be expensive.)

Don't be a silly, source recorder creates avi's, you are thinking of the demo recorder. /facepalm. Look at this tutorial.

Why not just get VDub (Virtual Dub) for source recorder and get maybe AutoGK to compress if needed?

He's talking about VirtualDub, or VirtualDubMod. It's a sort of editor for VFW (Video For Windows). Really, though, it's an all-purpose multimedia program. VirtualDubMod was a branch of the original program that supports many more formats, and I'd definitely go with that over the old VDub, especially when you consider VDub's development stopped years ago. If you're still confused about Source Recorder, check out this tutorial.

This recorder I liked alot, except when I'd save files and went to open them it would close all applications like wegame and my minimized dod:s. on top of that the color was all messed up but it said something about changing your game from 16 bit to 36bit but idk how to do that in Source games it's not in advances options, other than that I thought it was a great program.
