The power supply?

If they're three pin, you need to connect them to the motherboard or get a 3-pin to 4-pin adaptor. If they're 4-pin, they connect to the power supply.

If they're three pin, you need to connect them to the motherboard or get a 3-pin to 4-pin adaptor. If they're 4-pin, they connect to the power supply.

this tells the truth. One 3-pin usually is near the processor pos for the cpu fan though. Also, the motherboard manual usually tells where to stick the cables.

They're 4 pins but there is no where to stick them on the psu that came with the case. do i actually have to take the psu out? or should it be clearly visible?

You attach them to the four pin cables coming out of the power supply.

No. Three pin connectors are just a fan connector thing. There might be other things that use them, but I can't think of what. You can get adaptors for them (such as this) if you don't have any open fan headers on the motherboard.

Yes, anything where a 4-pin from the power supply can be plugged in, needs you to do so. The little tiny 4-pin CD line that goes to the motherboard is not needed.

If you don't have sata power connectors on your PSU, you can get by with a couple of these. CD drives and current HDDs don't need the 3.3v. In the future, a PSU upgrade would be a good idea.
