OK im having problems with the size of my map.
on the screenshot you can see one big square, covered in the rebel resistance texture. (outside covored in nodraw)
There's a CT spawnpoint, and a light_env, thats all.

mapsize: nearly 1 mb
how can this be?

when I look at a rebel resistance map its almost 5 mb, but its way bigger and has loads of stuff in it..
when im making big maps im kinda forced to use a skybox texture instead of some other texture..

ofcourse rebel resistance is fullbright, but does that really make such a big difference?
and when I look at maps like surf_ny_advance they are full of all kinds of textures, isnt fullbright and is wáy bigger.. but the mapsize of surf_ny_advance is only 15 mb..

I have the solution
Having lighting in a map makes a very big difference when it comes to filesize.

Ok then, but what I dont understand is how maps like surf_ny_advance get a relatively small map size(compared to my problem), but has loads and loads of lights in it?

They set the the texture lightmap detail to a high value, so the lighting is less detailed, but still there.
Most decent surf maps do this to save space.

No.
Select everything in your map, then press the Texture Application Tool button. ()

Change the lightmap value to something like 32. The higher, the smaller your .bsp file will be, but the worse the lighting will look. It's a good idea to leave most of the faces on a fairly high value, usually around 32. Then select the textures you want to have nice lighting individually and set their value to 16.

Here is an explanation of what lightmaps are and how you to use them: Clicky.

its about the mapsize, like in MB's, it doesnt have much to do with in-game symptoms.
But thanks to katfish I now know it has to do with the scale of the lightmaps =)
the bigger the scale -> less detailed lighting/shadows -> smaller mapsize
