Southside Residents Battle Bikini Car Wash
SAN ANTONIO -- About 50 residents of a south side neighborhood gathered at Wright Elementary School to talk about the fate of a controversial car wash.

Some residents said the Bikini Car Wash at 6010 S. Flores St., poses a threat to their quality of life while some said it's a danger to their children.

The business, which opened May 5, was shut down four days later when the San Antonio Water System found an environmental concern on the property and had the city revoke the businesses' certificate of occupancy.

Ricardo Arsate, the owner of the Bikini Car Wash, began repairing the area around his business this week so he can re-open quickly, he said.

SAWS officials have inspected the repairs, but have not yet given the final approval for the return of Arsate's occupancy certificate.

District 3 City Councilwoman Jennifer Ramos told those assembled she would continue to search for a loophole that allows the car wash to operate, and that police would continue monitoring the business to check for illegal activity. [SOURCE]

What are these people thinking? This is madness!

I fucking hate ignorant Americans. Shielding one's children from things like this fuck them up later in life more than letting them see it.

What does being American have to do with being ignorant? I could easily say "I hate ignorant British" or the French, or the Chinese. There's ignorant people everywhere you go. You yourself are being ignorant.

Because only in America would this happen. Only in America would mothers be so upset about this. In other countries they'd just tell their kiddies not to go near those places and the kids would anyway, and the mothers wouldn't care so much. In America, ignorance is king. And yes, I'm an American.

I know you're American, but let me point out that if you were Muslim and opened a bikini car wash in the Middle East, you'd be shot instead of losing your business license.

You can find ignorance like this everywhere you look. It's never "only in America", it's just reported more in America.

Togas weren't invented until the Romans, plus they cover way too much skin.

I read a little more about this, and it seems that people aren't necessarily complaining about the legality or morality of the business itself, but the location. It's in a location where it is visible from places such as a church and a doctors office.

Hopefully everyone can respect that most parents don't want their young child exposed to that, and that the location of the car wash can affect businesses.

Then to bad for the church and office, they don't own the land for miles around them. Screw shielding the children from that kind of stuff, you'll do them no good by hiding them from the truth.

How is that a bad thing?

That's just the argument of the parents fighting this. I don't necessarily think that it should be changed, but I can understand their reasoning.

Yeah, every parent wants their impressionable 10 year old little girl to emulate the behavior of these girls. I agree that it's pointless to shield teenagers from this, but when it comes to younger children I think that the parents would have to decide on that.

Well at least it gives people to look at during church. Might motivate more members to join the church, so if anything that car wash is giving the church more business.
