CSS Skin installer
by .
5% Complete
Y4kman and i have decided to create a skin installer. This will be similar to underdogs, except it will be fore counter strike source, be able to install every skin, and GUIs, and will have better technology. Both y4kman and i have designed the layout, and what will happen in each step, what each button will do etc. He will be doing all the coding, and i will be doing all the graphic art. I fully trust y4kman's coding ability because he has many years experience.

Here is a basic overview of how it will work.

Firstly you will download the program, and install it, with a customised installation setup, made using Nullsoft's creations. This will obviously have an uninstall feature aswell.

When opening the program for the first time, it will try and automatically locate your cstrike folder, if it fails, you will simply have to browse for it. Once the cstrike folder is found, it will be remember permantly.

After the directory has been located, you will then have to browse to find the zip, or rar, file you are trying to install.

Once that is found, secretely a program, a script will automatically run, searching for URI directories, in the readme, file, and if found, will narrow it down, and automatically extract the contents of the appropiate folder to the directory in the readme. This will happen quickly, and if it fails, you will be asked to choose which type of skin or Gui you are trying to install, say for instance a player skin. After working out what you are trying to install, the program will automatically extract the right files or the right folder, to the right directory, based of a database, i have almost finished creating, stating which type of skin or gui gets extracted to where.

If for instance the skin you are trying to install, is one where you can choose different grips and barrels etc, to make a final skin, you will be given an option. What will basically happen is it will try and located the name of each different piece, of the skin, by looking at the folder and the file and it will display the name of each one. Then using VTFlib, it will provide a small preview of the vtf file, so you can gain more insight into which one you will choose. Once the decision is made, then it will extract the appropiate file.

In addition to all these features, it might possibly have an online feature, where you can update its definitions from a server, an it will be able to extract every new skin coming out. You will also be able to turn certain features on and off, like a previews for skins etc. Another feature, will be coding a right click feature, so you can right click the skin rar files, and open with the css skin installer.

After making all of that, we might also consider adding a skin remover, which can remember which skins you have installed, and save them to a directory somewhere, and then you with a click of a button will be able to remove them.

Currently, we have only had small progress. We have worked out, and made a detail plan, of almost exactly what is going to happen at each step. That was just a brief overview. I have almost finished the database of which files and folders go where, and the y4kman is practising all the different techniques we might use in the creation of this program, and getting back up to speed with the VB language, although he is already fabulous with it.
I am working out what kind of graphic art i will do for this program, to make it looks stylish, sofisticated and easy on the eyes. As you can see below, we have made some possible colour combinations we might use for the program. Eventually we might add the option to choose your own, but our main priority is getting the program created, and keeping loading times to a minimal. We are also considering creating a website, for this project aswell, and if we do create we will link you to it.

Also be aware, that no graphic art in this wip, is confirmed. There might be many different changes, and maybe a completely new style, but you will have to wait and see, because something may not look so good on the program as we first thought.

We are both working hard on this program, and eventually, hopefully not to far away, you will see it getting released, and revolutionalising, fpsb skins as we know it.

Sorry for the bad quality images, blame the stupid jpeg file format;)

This is the blank project where WiPs and DevFiles without Projects appear!
If your work appears here you should create a Project from within your Studio and put your work inside it!

Projects are a great way to organize your WiPs and DevFiles into folders, reducing clutter in your studio and allowing you and others to more effectively track and manage your developments!
