Extension and stuff...

I've received an extension of deadline and now have another ~2 months to get the project done. I'm currently finalizing the school part which gives me full freedom in further development.

Left 4 Dead is also slowing me down (NED TO KILL ZOMBEHS) which I'll also play and map for (already have some stuff up for that).

Stay tuned for some updates in the coming weeks, and sorry for those who are waiting impatiently... ^.^

With three weeks to go to the deadline (don't worry, just a reasonably playable version, no hasty things will be delivered), I've made a small bit of progress: chapter two is almost done. Soon I'll be posting some news on additional content I need to add and some new screens.

Internal Alpha 2 will be due in about 1-2 weeks.

Internal Alpha 1 has been a success. I got feedback from several testers which will help me in the development :D
Big thanks to them and all supporters & kind-word-givers
As it was still a small amount of game(play) I didn't expect this much :)

Next up is the continuing of sketching the whole mod (it kinda is a spoiler so be careful when looking at sketches) and then keeping on designing the mod. As I'm also busy with other things the Internal Alpha 2 will be in at least two weeks, probably later.

About playtesters: I'm full at the moment, but I might release a public Beta sometime soon in which all can test :D

As this is a school project it has a deadline. This means I might have to cut features/content to reach it. Don't worry, I will just continue the mod after the deadline and take my time to make this mod be better or justless sucky :D

Internal Alpha 1 Released

A minute ago I released Complex Internal Alpha 1, which is mainly just a showcase of all the things I've made so far playable. There are no real levels etc yet and things need to be glued together. Playtesters will be contacted for links or can contact me for a link :)

Complex Internal Alpha 2 will be more elaborate with real playable gameplay stuff. After that I will release a public version :)

Two new playtesters have joined the team, and I'm now FULL on playtesters. Four is more than enough for this little project and it'll stay at a feasible capacity like this.
Thanks and kudos to the playtesters and thanks if you were also interested, but afraid/shy/unsure/busy or whatever :D

To the playtesters: I'm working my ### off but some content will be available soon :)

Another few WiPs have gone up, sketches have been published, another playtester is in sight (not sure yet though) but I do still need more playtesters :D
Come on, don't be shy (but be serious though): I need two more playtesters able to critically and objectively run through my beta maps and give comments to me. Its a benefit for both me and you. The first content to roam through would be available in a few weeks, and the storyline is already ready to be read in the devfiles.

Next to that (and several Alpha releases), I've also added a forum so you can post feedback, give comments or anything else you want to say (that is relevant to Complex, of course :P)

Note
This single player mod is functioning as my introduction to the larger mapping scene: a single-player mod. As this is a free-choice school project I will have to finish it. Also this means I'll have to do it on my own (so no help from other people).
As I do not have any experience with modelling, texturing and sound engineering I will purely rely on VALVe's material (which is unfortunate, but still, I have to start somewhere).
I will completely develop this mod myself, but other members of the team will be playtesters that will help and test my maps on the usual criteria. Next to that, I will also have the theme song made by a custom member as I'm not that proficient with music but a mod can't really go without one :)

Story
So I'll use the material of Half-Life 2 to set it to my own story: a story a few days before the events of Half-Life 2 itself...

As the alien empire known as the Combine attacked our world and got the human race to surrender, there was not only riots and patriots in City 17.
Our story starts as professor and colonel Ian Burns boards the train to the Carson Power Complex, a desolate power plant far beyond the city outskirts.

Ian have the important job to inspect the complex in means of safety and work conditions.
If anything goes wrong in a place like that, it could be fatal both to the workers and the people who rely on the electricity they produce.

In addition to the safety inspections, he will also get a tour through the laboratories where several new technologies are being created.

As our hero emerges the power complex, the combine have already started their assault and taken over the complex.

Please do note that you might have experienced/thought of the story different, and this might be pure nonsense to you, but its only a game mod made by a freshman mapper introducing himself to the a bit more serious mapping scene and starting the leap to team mods.

Structure
Half-Life 2: Complex will include voice acting and of course (hopefully) about 1 hour of game play.
I will completely develop it in the coming three months by myself.

It will be done in several stages (projects):

1. Sketching the Image - Sketching the whole mod and its concepts
2. Brushes and Architecture - Creating most of the levels, texturing and adding most models to the levels
3. It wants to be Heard - Adding Voice Acting and Lip Syncing. Also includes character and detail scripting.
4. Finishing Up - Testing, testing, testing (will test most in a small public group).

That and it seems you have a good handle on the other aspects anyways.


Thanks for the offer: I'll gladly accept it! In my opinion I've done quite a good job on optimizing, but thats to my standards (and i'm not that good at mapping yet) :D

I'll tell you when I have something ready for testing.

Yes, I'm optimizing my maps as much as possible.
The school project will be due in three weeks in which I will release a playable version. After that I'll continue with it to finish up everything (I won't be able to finish the final version in three weeks and thus the school deadline version will lack quite some content and all voice acting).
