Note
This single player mod is functioning as my introduction to the larger mapping scene: a single-player mod. As this is a free-choice school project I will have to finish it. Also this means I'll have to do it on my own (so no help from other people).
As I do not have any experience with modelling, texturing and sound engineering I will purely rely on VALVe's material (which is unfortunate, but still, I have to start somewhere).
I will completely develop this mod myself, but other members of the team will be playtesters that will help and test my maps on the usual criteria. Next to that, I will also have the theme song made by a custom member as I'm not that proficient with music but a mod can't really go without one :)
Story
So I'll use the material of Half-Life 2 to set it to my own story: a story a few days before the events of Half-Life 2 itself...
As the alien empire known as the Combine attacked our world and got the human race to surrender, there was not only riots and patriots in City 17.
Our story starts as professor and colonel Ian Burns boards the train to the Carson Power Complex, a desolate power plant far beyond the city outskirts.
Ian have the important job to inspect the complex in means of safety and work conditions.
If anything goes wrong in a place like that, it could be fatal both to the workers and the people who rely on the electricity they produce.
In addition to the safety inspections, he will also get a tour through the laboratories where several new technologies are being created.
As our hero emerges the power complex, the combine have already started their assault and taken over the complex.
Please do note that you might have experienced/thought of the story different, and this might be pure nonsense to you, but its only a game mod made by a freshman mapper introducing himself to the a bit more serious mapping scene and starting the leap to team mods.
Structure
Half-Life 2: Complex will include voice acting and of course (hopefully) about 1 hour of game play.
I will completely develop it in the coming three months by myself.
It will be done in several stages (projects):
1. Sketching the Image - Sketching the whole mod and its concepts
2. Brushes and Architecture - Creating most of the levels, texturing and adding most models to the levels
3. It wants to be Heard - Adding Voice Acting and Lip Syncing. Also includes character and detail scripting.
4. Finishing Up - Testing, testing, testing (will test most in a small public group).
