Type: Multiplayer
Game Profile: None
Dawn breaks over the lumber mill. The area is relatively quiet after the evening of inactivity.

The few employees that had been present over night were dispatched without hesitation.

Now, the few automated functions of the facility are warming up for a full day's work. But no one remains to tend the business at hand.

Hidden, well within the compound’s borders, the privately funded militia... or terrorists depending on which side you speak with... has started to build up their defensive perimeters.

They are fully aware that an elite special forces unit has taken a portion of the compound and is already establishing their foothold. The confrontation is approaching...

And then they receive word. A merc is in the facility. He doesn't join the special forces team, but offers to aid them for the right price. No matter. There is no time to worry about the roving soldier of fortune. Only enough time to prepare.

Special Forces Source is a new twist to a classic idea.

It will allow two official teams but a third independent group can choose to help either side they wish... The TOBP concept will allow teams to build up defenses and barricades before the round begins.

More information will follow as the project grows.

Okay, so it has been quite a while since we posted anything new here. This due mainly due to slow development. Honestly, the team has been going through various changes as recruitment issues arise.

We've had people join and then complain about the concept and never make anything. Poor Legend is then left with the task of firing them. We've also had our modelers leave due to personal or scheduling issues with plans to return later on.

And overall, the team hasn't been sure of how to deal with key recruitment needs since the mod doesn't have a full coder to make the game modes work. People like to see game-play and testing fairly early in design. It helps to have screen shots, videos, etc because that proves the mod is in development.

Well...

At the end of June, we decided to change our methods. Rather then continue to focus on recruiting members that won't have much to do for a while... we decided to keep the positions open to prospective members, but also to move on with development in one important field.

After some discussion and a host of new mappers were eager to join the team, we decided to focus on mapping. The idea is that making maps is rather important to this mod. We have something like 20 maps planned and even something as simple as making the geometry of the maps will be time consuming and challenging.

All the progress we have had to show to date has been in a few weapon renders and screen shots from one very incomplete map. This is necessary and unimpressive.

Therefore, we broke our plan down into a few separate parts. For now, mapping is our main focus. Even if the mod, for some unforeseen reason, falls through... if we have playable maps we could still release a map pack of some kind. And having playable maps in HL2 DM or other games means possibly being able to record short videos and snap actual game play screen shots.

For now, though, we have no new screen shots to show. The construction site map has been finished and we are waiting for some basic screen shots from both that map and one or two of the other maps before we post more media.

The school map was nearly finished, but progress was lost due to an accident involving steam and the delete key.

Other maps currently in development are mr_temple, the library, the bunker/underground military base, and the bridge.

We hope to have some new screen shots fairly soon.

After a few months of progress, the Special Forces: Source team has developed two important conclusions.

First, with both BiGToM and Legend017 expressing interest in some future mod projects including a single-player experience, the mod team should become a "development studio".

Second, with our old host providing nice, but buggy and sometimes rough around the edges service... we are ready to move to a more traditional host. Not only was the automated Spruz site a little cut and paste, but the site itself was about to be "upgraded" to a $5 per month account. For a mod group... that's a little... much.

So, in the interest of customization, expansion, and control... and not paying... we have now set up our own site.

Special Forces: Source is now hosted on hl2files via BWL's hosted sites.

Moreover, we are now establishing SF Studios.

The SF Studios site can be found at sfstudio.tk and the Special Forces: Source page can be found at sfsource.tk

To celebrate the move, we have also added four more "early look at mr_temple" map screen shots to the Special Forces: Source Map Screen shots Gallery and two more weapon renders to the Weapon Renders Page.

The team is also recruiting for all positions. Coder, mapper, modeler, skinner, sound design, etc. If you are interested in joining the team, drop a line to legend017@yahoo.com

Special Forces: Source is now requiting new members. The team would like a second coder, more quality mappers, a full 3D art team, sound designers and the like. However, we are open to volunteers from pretty much any field of modding... even concept artists.

We want to build a large scale team such that our goals may be completed as efficiently as possible.

If you are interested in helping this great mod, contact Army_of_one at legend17@yahoo.com. And remember, even if you are busy or not interested, tell your friends.

Also, be sure to check out the ModDB gallery for three new weapon renders.

Help Wanted
Position
Modeller

Special Forces: Source is recruiting 3D artists/modelers. We are looking for volunteers to build the player models, weapon models, and some set decorations. Ideally, the mod will have a full team of model artists... but that can't happen without your help. 3D artists should be familiar with the Source SDK and one of many 3D modeling software products such as MilkShape, 3Ds Max, or Soft Image XSI mod tool. If you can make models for Source games... we want you! Join now. Send an email to legend17@yahoo.com to apply and tell your friends. This is a great project and we hope to see you on the development team.
Animator

Special Forces: Source is seeking a 3D animator. We need an animator who can create custom animations for players, props, turrets, and weapons for source games. Here is a quick look at some of our existing weapon models... http://www.moddb.com/mods/special-force ... ges/mac-10 http://www.moddb.com/mods/special-force ... iper-rifle http://www.moddb.com/mods/special-force ... es/fn-scar To apply, contact Legend017 at legend017@yahoo.com
SFX Artist/Musician

Special Forces: Source is recruiting Sound Editors and Voice Actors for the mod. Of particular interest are weapons sounds and environment ambience. Vehicle and music also would be helpful. Voice acting for key dialogue on certain maps may also be helpful. Any experience would be helpful.
Mapper

Special Forces: Source is seeking mappers and level designers. The goal of our mapping and design team is to create maps of various industrial, public, and private structures and areas. Maps will range from a lumber mill to an airport to a sky-scraper. Cool designs and believable architecture are a must. Familiarity with Hammer and the SDK are very helpful, but even mapping experience for other engines are helpful. Maps would be designed and built in hammer. Mappers would then improve the designs with refinements and, of course, implement the custom map entities and concepts. We would love to have a robust mapping team for this project.
Coder/Scripter

Special Forces: Source is seeking a coder. This multiplayer squad game will require custom source code for weapons, items, and gadgets. We will also need work for the team divisions and build aspects of the game. We would love to have a full team of coders. So even if you are only partially familiar with editing, feel free to apply. Coders should be familiar with C/C++ language, especially Visual C++. Also, familiarity with mod coding and the Source SDK are big pluses.

Please remember that if this is still an active mod, you must keep this studio active according to the rules or it will be deleted.
