It's simple, and it's a small change which some people might like. I like how the edges are a bit brighter than the base, is sort of makes it look better.

Overall it's triangles, although having triangles isn't the most eye satisfying thing, it still does its job.

I personally belive you could make this look even better if you made them shaped like I have shown on the image to the right. That would first of all give it a more unique look, and add more awesomness.
You could also try to experiment with colors, but I think you should keep red as the main color.
But it's your pain sprite, your call. I'm just coming with some suggestions.
