My brother decided he wanted a turtle SOOO badly. So my mom went to the pet store and got him a $30 one that at that time, was so small it fit in the palm of his hand. Well, she didn't realize she had bought pretty much a species of tortoise that grows to be nearly as big as a Galapagos tortoise. That was 6 years ago, it stays over at my mother's apartment. It's not enormous yet. We gave up on an enclosure for it ages ago, it just runs around the apartment. Most of the time however, it sits underneath the refrigerator. When it does get active, it runs around the house making "GARWP" and little squeaking noises. My mom also has two cats, and they've learned that the turtle is as interesting as the paint on the wall. It's not like they can hurt it. When we set food out for the turtle, the cats like to join in, until the turtle decides it's done eating and shits in its food, then walks around for a bit and settles up underneath the fridge again.

And to think this is going to go on for 70+ years.
