EA is going to make another Command and Conquer. It's an FPS but no it's not Renegade, it is called Tiberium. They said the gameplay will be squad based like Rainbow Six and Ghost recon. They think it's cool but I think it's GOING TO SUCK. I don't wanna see my character leading a band of tank fodders. They would rather remake Renegade instead. Yes the single player sucks but the multiplayer is where it's at. It's like double assault but the difference is you can get your own vehicles so you can easily deal with tank whores by being a tank whore yourself. And yes strategy is necessary in Renegade, try to rambo your way to the enemy base and you will be zapped by the obelisk in a minute. But that's enough background so how are they going to improve Renegade?
Aside from fixing the netcode They should run it in bf2 engine so far the engine has been stable and they actually own it. Yes the graphics are outdated but who cares? Why BF2 engine? Because it's easier to make a game on an established engine than creating from the ground up which usually ends up with bugs to deal later with patches.
So how Renegade will fit in BF2 engine?
First: Class based infantry
Unlike the old Renegade, players can choose between basic units engineer, minigunner, rocket trooper (who can also shoot air units) and sniper without spending some money. instead players spend their money on higher tier units like Zone troopers or Cyborgs, or upgrade their arsenal instead like customizing a player in bf2142.
Second Vehicles:
Like in old Renegade, vehicles are purchased not spawned so even noobs can have their own wheels. To spice things up they should another purchaseable infantry unit the tank whores should watch out, it's the mutant hijackers from Tiberian. When purchased a player doesn't have any weapon aside from a knife and a pistol but they have the ability to hijack enemy vehicles instantly killing anyone inside it. imagine hijacking a full APC >:)
I also add that Nod should should have stealth vehicles like stealth APC since they don't rely on firepower and both factions should have walkers like Wolverine, Titan Juggernaut and Avatar Warmech since Bf2142 has it. I can see the Avatar being as intimidating as UT3's Darkwalker.
Third: Gameplay
Renegade gameplay will stay the same but there will be another game mode. It's the Mammoth MKII mode like bf2142's Titan mode. Nod has the usual base and their goal is to destroy GDI's Mammoth MKII which also acts as a mobile base, but they should do it before the Mammoth reaches the Nod base and destroy it. Like in 2142, there will be Nod silos lying around the map. Nod will take some power cells from the power plant inside the base to power those silos to shoot the Mammoth Firestorm shield down. GDI should keep those silos disabled at all cost, it's either by cutting off the power from these silos or kill any Nod who carries a power cell. Like in 2142, Nod can get inside the Mammoth once the shield is down to blow it from the inside.
Oh, and by the way, the Nod base is sorrounded by tall walls and armed with anti personnel turrets so only the Mammoth can get inside the base.
This is what I mean.
fourth: Commander support
Player should be able to apply as a Commander in the new Renegade. And each commander has 3 different kinds support, offensive, defensive and tactical. GDI commander has Air Strike for offensive, Firestorm shield for defensive and GPS scan which, unlike BF2's UAV scan, reveals every enemy in the map. Nod Commander has Tiberium Radiation for offensive, Cloak for defensive and plant Tiberium anywhere for tactical.
Well that's all I could come up for now. I hope somebody developer would think the same way and make this a reality.
