Well, I managed to fix the idle animation by making a brand new one, but I have another problem, the entire thing is black, arms and everything.
The UV's are probably moved down a map. If you have a UV editor move it to the center, if you don't just uncheck ClampT and ClampS in VTFEdit with the textures loaded.

I've decompiled the axe, and the idle and draw animations are screwed up no matter what I do when I compile.

No, the idle and reference animations look exactly the same.

Well, If you are not using custom animations copy valve's fireaxe.MDL and rename it to something like fireaxe.ani.mdl

toss it in the same folder and use
$includemodel "weapons/v_models/fireaxe.ani.mdl"

You only need the .mdl since that contains animations.
