To skin a helmet you can use the same way as skinning a weapon, just get some "different" bases. Like, if you want to make a Ballistic style, use a syntetic base, if you want to get a normal style, use a metal base. But keep in minf that you texture must fit 100% on the uv, otherwise the skin will looks like shit. One more thing, before you start to skin, get the original texture and use it as a reference to make your skin and add the lightsource with the gradient tool set to black and white.
