Wood on guns is generally walnut, which doesn't usually have any sort of black finish. Walnut is very common for revolver grips, i own a Ruger single-six that has red grips as well as a S&W .38 special revolver that has more traditional colored walnut grips.

detail: Well truthfully, no additional detail was really added. Its darker, but not more heavily contrasted, and has no color. the absence of color makes it feel less similar to its environment.

Functionality: It functions as itself, but you didn't add functionality either. I suppose it works just fine, but it did before.

texture: Still the same texture, just recolored to be black. A new texture job would have certainly been a more worthwhile release but since you are new and i don't feel like getting in any kind of battle, I will not assess, because assessments are not to be handed out, but to be earned.
