ARENA_2FORT Beta
(arena_2fort_b2)

OVERVIEW

A conversion of Valve's 2fort map to the Arena style. Since pub 2fort tends to
stalemate rather often with the defence turtling in their base and the offence
deathmatching in the centre, it lends itself well to Arena play, which introduces
a central goal for each team and removes the possibility of turtling. These
bring in the tactical decision-making that makes Arena play great.

New ramps out of the water, and new stairs to the battlements open up the play
area, while a single spawn on each side allows for better teamwork from the
start of the round. One small healthpack is available in each sewer, but with
only two ways in or out, it's likely to be a deathtrap. There's also a
decent amount of metal around the map to support engineers.

I think it needs a wider left and right flank, the bridge and water is just to deadly to cross so everone stays in there base. How about a tunel from the bit in the middle of the bluw tunnel were the health is, that comes up half way along the long bit of tunnel on the other side. And the same again on the other side.

Very well done, i have thought about this my self and i am glad you have done it. The ramp into the water is a great addition. Keep it up

Pros: Obviously, a lot of thought went into this map. The ramps inside spawn and from the water to the bridge area are both excellent additions.
Cons: I got several errors when playing the map. Could have been just me - but might have been the map. I only experienced them on this map, so leads me to believe it was more likely the map.
Improvements: I really dislike the sewer area. It feels really out of place.... like you're taking the really long way around the map. I love that you've included them and that there is a ramp out of the water, but the sewer area needs to be reworked so it's not so long and drawn out. Maybe there's a way to make the sewer exit more direct and less turn here, turn there, go left, go right, finally there! (for example)
Other than the sewer area and the possible game crashing bug, this map looks and plays awesome. Players in my server had only good things to say about it.
Notes: Let me know when you update the map.

There is a reason why Valve didnt make 2fort a arena map from the beginning.

The bridge has nothing supporting it (no beams through the water, etc.) so its just floating, with the ends being on land.

Pros: Since Valve didn't do it themselves, someone was bound to do it, glad to see it was done by a competent mapper.
Cons: The ramps out of the water need some work. Stairs might look better considering the application and the fact it is concrete. Also, the different layout might confuse players who are new to the map, but there's really nothing you can do about that since gameplay is more important than maintaining the original geometry in some areas.
Improvements: Fix the ramps coming out of the water to make them more aesthetic. And fix the cubemaps.

You shouldn't give yourself credit for copypasting a map.

Balance: It IS perfectly balanced - it's a symmetric map, of course it is.
Fun: It's damn fun, as any arena I've played so far. It's a good conversion.
Gameplay: As a conversion of a Valve map, credit goes to Valve for the most part. Credit to you to doing the conversion however, and for doing it first. Someone was gonna. It plays well as an arena map, although perhaps two ramps on either side out of the water - as anyone leaving is asking to be sniped.
Teamplay: Only tested with pubbers as of yet, but it seems to play well with teams. May come back with more details.
