Just a simple replacement for the standard menu background that I created for myself. A few people demonstrated an interest on SPUF so I decided to upload it here.

Don't be too harsh, it's my first submission, I'm not particularly artistically minded and I am aware it's quite simple. I made it partly due to nostalgia for the animated beta backgrounds - and partly because I just dislike the drab standard one ;)

Just in case I messed up the while archive location it should be extracted as follows:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[username]\team fortress 2\tf\materials\console

Improvements: Find out why does it look worse than ingame.
Notes: Tested both low and high settings.

How the hell can it take any resources? It's just a custom image!

Yeah it looks terrible for me, is there a code i can input into the launch settings that can make it appear really nice, but not mess up my actual in game quality (which would make my computer explode)

TF2 might support the ability to actually have a map load as the background like in the Half-Life 2 games. But I'm not sure. It would require that you edit 2fort so that once the player spawns, a point_viewcontrol entity enables itself and projects a view of whatever area of the map you want to display. You can even have it move along a track and stuff. But this obviously requires knowledge of the game files, and of course, mapping.

Anyway, pretty good and it definitely shows the true artistic look of TF2, so it's a winner.

When TF2 first came out it had a background like that, but people bitched about loading times so valve removed it. Now we have to wait longer for maps to load.

I do believe, for some reason unknown to me, that the quality is dependant on your ingame settings. It looks great with mat_picmip -1 and full aa/af. If anyone knows a fix lemme know.
