Yeah, almost like US, there is an assault rifle ban, but you can get barebones versions of the AR-15's and mod them yourself. Like you could buy a bushmaster semi-auto for a grand or less and upgrade it yourself. Most military assault rifles require licenses though, like I'm pretty sure a G-36, or an AUG would require a strict background check, and a yearly payment for a license.

All rifles in Russia don't require extra licenses and stuff like that.

All rifles have the same procedure, medical and mental examination, background check, and a small instructionary course. Then you have to renew it each year 1.5 years.

Handguns are illegal unless you have a license as a security or bodyguard or police officer. Nonlethal handguns are available, but like rifles, require a license which is obtained through the same procedure.

Full-auto firearms are available only for army and police personnel.

It's a pretty good system, I think. Not too difficult to obtain firearms, and keeps the criminals away.

98% of gun-crime in Russia is committed with illegal firearms.

Maybe you're right.

I personally don't remember what it was. We've got civilian versions of NATO-style weapons on sale in many gun stores in Moscow.

I saw a Spas-15, SL-8, G-36, Steyr AUG, and an AR-15 all in semi-auto at one of my favorite places. Could be an XM-177

Airsoft?

No, that was a semi-auto version of an M-4 (if I remember right) that a friend of mine let me take a picture in my gear with at his summer home.

I photoshopped the background in. It's an abandoned apartment building I climbed around in at Cherniahovsk in Kaliningrad.

Looks like an XM-177
