Look at KOTOR, I love Star Wars' original plots but I enjoy things that include the same background or share similar traits, but with a Different plot, KOTOR is great. Well it may come out good, but what I like with stargate is the stargate series them selves. I don't think I'd like a random story with a stargate.

Maybe it WILL BE like it but they have to say it wont and not include any characters or scenarios/planets or anything like that IDENTICALLY named so as to avoid copyrights, because a name can't be copyrighted. Blurb

The Legend of Stargate is a beautifully-detailed adventure game/FPS combo that takes you on a ride through a fictional universe. But do not expect to find anything related to the original Stargate though - to avoid copyright issues, the mod team has decided to base their mod in their own completely made-up "Stargate" universe, and rid itself of any of the original Stargate IP. So everything will be made completely from scratch, and only the name is used. You will proceed through several levels of pure fun. The missions, story, and gameplay will be immersive and entirely true to the Science-Fiction genre.
