Sata is faster than Pata (IDE) but not as important as PCI vs AGP, as for memory get what is recommended for your new MOBO, i think DDR3 is what is being used in the newer boards some with DDR4. iF you can get away with DDR2 it will be much cheaper. Not sure of the performace difference between the types. WE will get you learned yet grasshopper!!

Yes, reusing old case, dvd, will be upgrading mobo, mem, hd and video.

Posted by Mercybr1nger Looking at 1000K for two boxes. and thats pushing it hehe we will have to chat about that. you can save $$ by reusing your current case, dvd/cd drives, for $1000 you should be able to do ok for both pc's, you can save $$ upfront by going wiht cheaper equip, but just make sure its upgradeable and add a piece at a time later

Is your wife planning on playing BF2 or and other high requirement programs or just using it for E-mail, surfing the net and basic pc stuff like word and excel.
